IOR Service Provider (ISP) Ground Segment (GS)

The IOR Service Provider (ISP) Ground Segment (GS) is decomposed here into logical components and their responsibilities. Detailed system boundary and external interfaces are defined in 1.8 Boundaries and Interfaces: 1.8 Boundaries and Interfaces

Allocation of these logical components to physical infrastructure is covered in 1.7 Physical Architecture

External entities referenced

  • Landing Stations (LS): External 3rd-party ground assets distributed globally. Landing Stations provide space/terrestrial connectivity during valid contact windows.
  • Spacecraft (SC): Generic term for IOR-cooperative spacecraft (SV, Depot, Resupply Vehicle) and, when applicable, a cooperative Client Spacecraft.

Note: Interfaces between these GS logical components are specified in the following subsections (e.g., GSS ↔ MCS, GSS ↔ LSM). Where an interface is marked “external”, the authoritative definition is in 1.8 Boundaries and Interfaces.

1.8 Boundaries and Interfaces

Ground Segment Server (GSS) <->Mission Control System (MCS)

The Mission Control System (MCS) provides planning services for the Ground Segment (GS). It computes three main types of mission plans:

  1. Contact Plans (CP) – Time-tagged contact windows between Spacecraft (SC) and Landing Stations (LS). These plans are provided to both SC and LS.
  2. Service Delivery Plans (SDP) – Maneuver and trajectory plans for chaser (SV) to target and phase alignment to enable service delivery to the target the CS.
  3. Service Plans (SP) – Time-tagged plans describing when and how service will be delivered to the Client Spacecraft. The chaser CV can be very distant from the target CS so the Service Plan provides the optimal time and location for RPOD initiation and delivery of service. The service plan can be schedule many months in advance.

The Ground Segment Server (GSS) orchestrates all GS operations and uses MCS planning services by sending planning requests and receiving the resulting plan.

Ground Segment Server (GSS) ↔ Landing Station Manager (LSM)

The Landing Station Manager (LSM) distributes Contact Plans to Landing Stations (LS) and to Spacecraft (SC) through the Landing Stations. Landing Stations are 3rd‑party ground assets distributed globally that, using the Contact Plans, enable communications between the Spacecraft and the Ground Segment (GS).

Spacecraft section covers messages which are common to any IOR Cooperative spacecraft. These are Service Vehicle, Depot and Resupply vehicle. In case Client Spacecraft (CS) is IOR cooperative SC would also cover the CS

LSM Distributes the both HSL and LSL Contact Plans to each Spacecraft. LSM maintains communications with each SC to distribute these plans.

IOR Capable Spacecraft

IOR capable spacecrafts have the ability to be master or slave in the service delivery and RPOD process. SV (chaser, master), Depot (target, slave), Resupply Vehicle (chaser, master) and IOR capable client spacecraft (target, slave) are IOR capable space crafts. ReFuel Orchestrator (RFO)↔︎ GNC

Refuel Orchestrator (RFO) requires services of GNC to accomplish its tasks. RFO:

  1. Uses GNC to determine attitude of the spacecraft.
  2. Uses Galileo GNSS to determine the Ephemeris data
  3. Uses GNC to alter the attitude of the spacecraft

ReFuel Orchestrator (RFO)↔︎Docking and Refueling System (DRS)

Docking and Refueling System (DRS) is available only in crafts at capability level of: IOR Cooperative. Only client spacecraft may not have the capability level of IOR Cooperative. The Dept, SV and Resupply Vehicle all have capability level of IOR Cooperative.

Refuel Orchestrator (RFO) requires services of Docking and Refueling System (DRS)to accomplish its tasks. RFO:

  1. Uses DRS to get the docking status
  2. Uses DRS to dock
  3. Uses DRS to undock
  4. Uses DRS to start Refuel (for Master spacecraft which needs to deliver fuel)
  5. Uses DRS to stop Refuel
  6. Uses Propellant Sensor to monitor Refuel

These tasks are performed at the edge of the Proximity Operations.

IOR Cooperative Spacecraft

IOR cooperative spacecraft assists the IOR capable space craft in pre-docking, docking, transfer and post dock operations by forming a two way RF communication link. It has a subset of capabilities of an IOR Cooperative spacecraft.

IOR Cooperative spacecraft through the Client Ground Segment assists the ISP GS during the RPOD and propellant transfer process.
